@Gkar45 - its not a ban, it's a requirement to use an age verification system, and it applies to sites anywhere in the world when accessed from a UK IP address. Failure to implement such a system could result in the site being blocked. Googling

uk porn age verification

will get you many links. The first that I get is

https://www.wired.co.uk/article/uk-porn-age-verification

I doubt that it will be effective in practice.

I wonder if the government will have a 'recommended safe' list? Will Teresa May, Jeremy Corbin or (gods forbid) Nigel Farrage be putting together a 'Verified safe for viewing' list of their favourites??? ;)

This is some really weird mass censorship thing, it will end up with people being jailed for being linked to 'unregistered' sites...

Sure, your internet usage, mobile usage and daily shopping habits are all being tracked. the idea that anything is somehow going to be 'off limits' to preserve your... personal security is, quite frankly, total BS. Your behaviour is worth money and if you think that any company would pass up the opportunity to make those easy credits, you must be off your rocker!

It would only take a small step for someone to use that information before a small mob turns up on your door demanding ***** over the order of that edible pantie pizza topping you ordered... ;)

@gkar45

An MP is a mounted police. A cop on a horse 😆. Wrong context ....oops

An MP is the person elected by the constituents of his electoral district to represent the legislative assembly to the people that elected him into government......... Someone here that takes politicians and politics seriously will probably correct me. 😎

An MP is the elected Member of Parliament. Supposed to represent the persons of his electoral district in the house of government.

My turn. What's a congressman? What's a senator?

@gkar45 , Yup, coffee and cigarettes makes the world go round. That's particularly true in my case, they keep my wheels turning. Much more than diesel does.

Well ageid sounds about as secure as an open door, it will be hacked eventually. I for one will not be using their service, if that means i can no longer use this software for which i use my credit card as id and to provide credits then so be it.

Overall, I support the goal of keeping children away from potentially ***** images until they have the intellectual and emotional maturity to process them. I'll spare you the litany of things I've things I've encountered on the internet that have made even a jaded person like me say, "What the f*ck is wrong with people?!?". (Of course, I also said that about the Game of Thrones writers this week after episode 5. 😖) Unfortunately, I've yet to see a way of implementing that goal other than diligent, involved, tech-savvy parenting and even that's not foolproof.

Here's a video that explains many of the things wrong with the current proposal, including things that have already been mentioned above: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qCM6Uq7CAnU.

For those that (justifiably) don't want to give out their personal data, AgeID also supports something called a PortesCard voucher that can be bought from numerous outlets in the UK just by showing your proof of age (e.g. driver's license, passport) and paying 4.99 pounds. The provides a completely anonymous codeword that can be configured into the Portes app on your phone to verify yourself via AgeID when you go to a restricted site. However, there are two issues. First, the codeword is only good for one year, after which you'll need to pay 4.99 again if you want to keep viewing restricted sites. Secondly, unless the UK also defines and enforces laws that prevent inappropriate resale, anyone over 18 can make easy money by buying these vouchers and selling them at a profit to their ***** friends, rendering the whole plan ineffective. Regardless, this looks to be very lucrative for AgeID/Portes and it makes me wonder whether anyone in the UK goverment will be getting a slice of that pie as well. 💰😈 Thoughts?

I've seen smart screens being installed into cribs! Every problem starts with education, not taxation... and definitely NOT censorship!

Well you need to make up your mind if you're living in one or the other. Trying to be in both is obviously bad for ones sanity! ;)
